What can you do at the maze?

Not just a maze… we’ve got three maize mazes for you to find your way through. Each of the mazes contains a fun game for all the family to enjoy, search for the clues and the games boards hidden within the maze pathways and see if you can complete them all!

We’ve also got three woodlands to explore, each filled with games and activities… head to the roadside woods to have a go on our drum kits, or into the middle woodlands to play in the mud kitchen and sit in the tractor!

Head out to Farmula One and race your way around the go-kart track, which has been recently extended. Another new addition for 2023 is our obstacle course area and hay bale stack, perfect for climbing and burning off some of that energy!

Don’t forget about the wooden fort maze, tyres for climbing and slides to go down.

If that wasn’t enough to keep you all occupied, then in the main entrance courtyard you will find multiple games, activities and more to keep all ages occupied! From space hoppers to sand pits and even a cow that you can have a go at milking… there’s so much to see! It really is a whole day of fun for everyone.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Once I’ve paid the entry cost are there any additional charges?

No. The maze and all the courtyard activities are included in your entry ticket. We do however sell drinks, snacks and merchandise from our kiosk.

Do we need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend pre-booking your tickets to ensure you can visit on the day you desire. If we have capacity tickets will be available to purchase on the day. Any pre-purchased tickets are non-refundable, however if you email us at least 24 hours prior to your booked date we will endeavour to accommodate change requests. Also, if you create an account when making your booking you’ll be able to change your booking as many times as you like (depending on availability).

What happens if I am running late for my booked arrival time slot?

This shouldn’t be a problem, but may mean you’ll need to queue at admissions. Please note our entrance ticket booth is closed from 12noon – 2pm, so to enter between these times please come in via the kiosk/gift shop.

Can children go around the maze on their own?

No, children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.

How long should we allow for the visit?

The mega maze takes approximately 1 hour to complete, but we would recommend that you allow 3-4 hours in total to make sure you can enjoy all the other activities including the mini maize maze, woodlands, fort maze & courtyard areas.

Can we leave the maze and come back later?

Yes, your entry ticket allows you to come and go as many times as you wish on that day. Why not check out the other attractions at Millets Farm Centre?

Can we pay a separate entry price and just use the courtyard activities?

Unfortunately we have a set entry price into the maze complex, but there are lots of other great activities available at Millets Farm for families to enjoy over the summer, including the children’s playarea, animal walkway and carousel.

Is the maze open all year?

No. We’re open from Tuesday 18th July to Sunday 3rd September. As the maize is a planted crop it is harvested in the autumn and used as animal feed.

Does the maze still open when it’s raining?

Yes, we aim to stay open in all weathers, although persistent heavy rain could make some of the maze features unsafe which would mean we would be forced to close for health and safety reasons. All ticket holders will be contacted in these circumstances. Some of the activities in the courtyard would be closed during rain showers.

What should we wear?

The Maize Maze is a growing crop planted each year into a regular field. The paths are well prepared and free of stones, but solid footwear suitable for walking distances is advisable. Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions, if it is hot, do remember a sun hat, and if it looks like rain, a waterproof jacket.

Are there toilets in the maze?

We have port-a-loos within the the courtyard area (not within the maze itself). Additional facilities are located next to the Farm Shop.

Do you have baby changing facilities?

Our baby changing facilities are located in the main toilet block next to the Farm Shop (approx 150 meters away).

Do you allow dogs into the maze?

No. Dogs are allowed in the overflow car parking areas but for hygiene reasons they are not allowed inside the maze with the exception of service dogs.

Is the maze suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs?

As the maize is a real growing crop the pathways are soil. We try and ensure the maze pathways are smooth and compact but pushchairs and wheelchairs may struggle.

Can we bring a picnic into the maze area?

Yes. We also have a range of eateries within the Farm Centre. For more details, visit our Food page here.

Is smoking or vaping allowed?

No. Millets Maze is proud to be a smoke & vapour free area. Smoking and vaping is not permitted within the maze, courtyard or its surrounding areas.

Is alcohol permitted?

Alcohol is not permitted in the maize during the day, however, during our torchlight nights, we are happy for adults to enjoy a drink responsibly in our courtyard area.

Maize is a tropical plant that can grow over 7ft tall? Find out more about our a-MAZE-ing mazes in the Maize Maze History tab above.

The Millets Maize Maze History

Our first ever Maize Maze was in 1997 and was the first one of its kind in the UK. People flocked far and wide to try it out and it even got into the Guinness World Records for being the first in the country…

Our original maze had 3.73 miles of pathways covering almost 8 acres – it took some visitors 4 hours to complete! We’ve since reigned it back a little bit to make it more manageable and it now covers an area of 6 acres and 2.5 miles. Phew!

Fun facts

  • Maize is a tropical plant which can grow over 7ft tall!
  • Each year our maize is planted in April so it’s ready by July.
  • Maize loves lots of sunshine and very little rain!
  • The average ear of corn has 800 kernels in 16 rows and always has an even number of rows.
  • Maize isn’t always yellow – it can be produced in many colours including green, red and purple!
